Summer Saviours – The Kiddy Cone

In praise of some lovely warm, summer weather – at last – I’m dusting off a few photos of my fave ice creams of summer 2011 – 2012.

And my top tip on how to enjoy ice cream without letting the calories linger round the thighs:

Buy Kiddy Cones!

My kids would be eating double scoop cones whilst I tucked into the kiddy cone or cup.

But after all, they were racing around, swimming and chasing pigeons and doing death defying leaps. They were burning up a HUGE amount of calories.

I was pretty active, but not that blooming active. Spare me!

But I loved my kiddy cones, really enjoyed them.

Did NOT feel in the slightest bit deprived.

Eaten slowly, thoroughly enjoyed.

I must be getting wise… or maybe just old!

Coconut gelato, summer fave.

Ginger and ginger ice cream, outrageously delicious!

Peanut butter fudge, a taste sensation, enjoy in moderation!

I’m not a great calorie counter, and even when I do count, I tend to be looking at protein. fats and carbohydrates (a workout in itself.) But for the number crunchers, here’s what Calorieking reports:

Single scoop of ice cream  100ml  50 g

Calories 98 ( Kilojoules 408 )
Total Fat 5.5 g
Saturated Fat 3.6 g 18%
Carbohydrate 10.7 g 4%
Protein 2 g

Actually, I’m pretty sure the scoops might be bigger. But not to worry. Here’s to small, sweet treats on hot summer days.

Lets enjoy our grub, without going overboard.

Practice becomes  habit.

Could you see your way to enjoying a kiddy cone, do you reckon?

Me too, it’s blooming hot here tonight. There is some commercial vanilla in the freezer, but that’s just not good enough… only the real deal will do.
