We need to look after ourselves well.

Where the mind leads the body will follow.

It was a sunny morning. I took my older boys to school. It’s more drop than kiss these days.

Then drove down to Collaroy beach. Enjoyed feeling the autumn sun warm on my skin.

Love a briny tang on the air.  Waves were thumping hard along the soft sand on the beach, shifting it.

Such a beautiful day for a walk. Such a lovely spot for gazing far and away out to sea.

Collaroy beach has the loveliest of rockpools. I joined several older ladies and gents swimming up and down. Washed about a bit when the waves broke over.

Waved to some little fishes.

It was sublime.

When you swim in the chilly sea like this, you sure know you are alive.

Jumped out and wrapped up in a couple of towels.

Would love to say that I sat in a cafe and thought great thoughts but in fact I drove home in towels and cossie.

Because a carpet man was coming.  Mundane!!

Do you look after yourself sometimes?

Do you go somewhere really beautiful by ourself?

Do see and feel the beauty around you?

Linking tonight to Maxabella’s Weekend Grateful which is up at her blog here, and at Kidspot here.

Because I am truly so grateful to be alive and to feel so alive when swimming in the sea. Two dear friends of mine have passed away far too, too young.  Feel as if I am seeing every bloody blade of grass at the moment.  Being alive and enjoying this beautiful, beautiful world is NOt to be taken for granted.

Maxabella’s topics are Simple and Being Needed, why not pop over for a look and add in your own grateful thoughts?

You are so right – just being outdoors does wonders. Before I had my kids I was a great walker, used to walk far and often. What with kids and work I didn’t keep that up, and am trying to get back into it now. I have to make a real effort but when I do I just feel fantastic. Just being in a lovely park or on a foreshore near the beach and feeling the breeze on my skin is a tonic.
Lovely post – you’ve inspired me to fit in a good long walk on my next day off.

Thank Jackie, so true. Even on a not so sunny day just being outside is good for everybody. Our bodies were built for movement… and our minds too!

Oh, love nothing more than a walk along the beach! Unfortunately, a little too far away to do on a regular basis, but a girl can dream :)

Seana, you’ve inspired me to go for a walk along the beach this weekend. Just to feel the sand between my toes….no dipping in Port Phillip Bay for me!

It won’t be as serene as your experience of course [I'm going to take Olive] but we’ll get to feel the wind in our hair, smell the sea and just be together. Can’t wait!

So thrilled to hear this, Di. The wind in the hair is such a great feeling, hope you and Olive have a special time together.

I’m shivering just thinking about it, but I know what you mean. I once jumped off a boat and into the sea off the coast of the Greek Islands (oooh laah laah!) and swam to a nearby tiny island. It was SO invigorating, my body and mind were singing afterwards. Wow, that was …. SO long ago. I really should do that kind of thing more often. Thank you for the inspiration.

Too cold! But I admire people who can brave it!

I do love this post! The doing of things just for ourselves is necessary and if they involve the ocean, well, even better!!! x

It was a wonderful day… must remember it when I am surrounded by noisy children on school holidays, when they are fighting and when they are all DEMANDING I help them all at once, whilst cooking, cleaning up etc etc Remember the serenity and the freedom…. when we’re mums a little freedom and self-indulgence can go a long way.

Oh my goodness I could never swim in an ocean pool during autumn and winter. I agree that it would certainly let you know that you’re alive but I’m too chicken.

Years ago I was at Coogee after a massive storm the swell was up. This was August so it was freezing. There was an elderly man in his speedos going for his daily swim. Madness.

Love & stuff

Oh now, come on Maria, I was swimming in the sea here at Jervis Bay this morning. It was actually not too bad. I guess that growing up by the sea in Bonnie Scotland has made me a bit tougher but…. there’s nothing like the electrifying feeling of a chilly plunge. Hot shower afterwards is tops too!
