What was I thinking?
I’ve decided to do a seven day 10,000 steps a day challenge and I’m still 800 steps off as I type!
It IS much harder to do 10,000 steps a day than I’d thought.
Here’s what I’ve been up to today:
- Managed 1300 steps this morning whilst still in my pyjamas! Included lots of tidying up, hanging washing etc etc
- Was back with the kids at the same park as on Wednesday. But this time I didn’t spend all my time nattering to the other school mums there. The kids had their bikes and I joined them for a couple of laps around the oval. Also walked around with a lost dog whilst we waited for the owners to come for it.
- Have been jogging on the spot quite a lot, 100 steps at a time. Must time how long that takes.

Where’s the fire? Well, at my children’s school, is where.
Fire erupted last weekend and whilst it has only damaged a portion of the school, the site has been unsafe all week and so the twins have been at home with us.
Poor International Man of Mystery, he had been hoping for a nanosecond or two of peace and quiet during the week. It was not to be.
But the dangerous bits have been fixed and school resumes on Monday. Here’s my grateful list for this week:

Now look, I like to think of myself as a pretty tolerant person.
Probably because life is just too short and too busy to worry much about other people.
But I do have a bit of an issue with the mums who ‘just don’t have time for breakfast.’
What!!??!!
How long do they reckon it takes?
How long does it take to get mascara on? Shorter than that!
For goodness sake. Preserve me!

I did 10,000 steps today. I know ‘cos I wore a pedometer. Popped into my bra, as you do.
I don’t think I’d have done those 10,000 steps if I hadn’t had that pedometer there.
It is a great way to encourage yourself to step out a little more.
The things is, I reckon I had a really active day. But 10,000 steps a day is supposed to be the bare-arsed minimum or to put it technically:
‘The recommended daily step count for a healthy adult.’

April 30, 2012
It’s been a huge cooking day here at Smith Towers. There’s something about my International Man of Mystery coming home, skinnier than ever, that makes me want to bustle about in the kitchen.
And the kids had been begging for another White Chocolate Mousse.
And the rest of the week is pretty busy.
And… and…. I just felt like cooking. Whilst listening to some excellent podcasts. Great way to spend part of the day.

I need all the help I can get in the kitchen, that’s no secret.
But I’m always a willing learner.
When some lovely bloggers and I met Fast Ed recently, he had many pearls of wisdom for me.
Here are some of his top tips, as scribbled down by me and then tested in my own kitchen.
