I’m celebrating a wee mini-milestone here.
Started this blog on my birthday, January 17th. So it’s two months old today.
I’m celebrating by starting to write the PR/Contact page, and as part of that, I’m going to upload the blog stats for the past two months.
Now don’t get too excited, please, do calm down. It’s just a wee blog and has started modestly. But I’m a communicator at heart and I love to know who and how many I am communicating with.
I was always interested in TV viewing figures when I worked at Channel 9 and the BBC, and I’m very keen to know our book sales. So why not blog stats?
Bloggers can be so shy about their stats, and indeed cagey. Why is that?
Annabel Candy at Get In The Hot Spot and Succesful Blogging is the exception to that rule. She wrote a long post about Get In The Hot Spot’s stats and mentioned stats in Succesful Blogging’s first birthday.
Another exception is Veronica Foale who has her media kit available on Someday We Will Sleep.
Anyway, here’s the picture from Google Analytics as of now, this minute.
Hello, hello! I’m waving madly to all of the people who have read a post, and a big hug to all who have left a comment.
Having produced TV shows, written newspaper and magazine articles and also authored and co-authored three books, I can tell you that blogging is SUCH a satisfying way to communicate. The instant feedback and the great information people share so readily is really delightful.
Two months down, what a laugh.
Here’s to the next two months!
And a very genuine THANK YOU for reading!

Hi Seana,
I just LOVE your honest post about statistics! Congratulations on such a great achievement! You must be thrilled to bits.
I too have just started a blog, it’s only five weeks old, but I pour over the stats every day religiously. It’s so satisfying to know that you are touching so many people!
Best wishes for your blog going forward. I’ll certainly be reading.
Melissa.
Oooh I used to produce in TV too! Great to meet ya.
I look at my stats daily because I’m trying to learn how Google Analytics works and I also look at my Alexa ranking. I want to relook at my Disclosure page and turn it into a PDF instead for easy download. First i need to work on my letterhead
I think it’s because if we don’t let people know what our stats are, we can pretend that our traffic is bigger than it actually is, by how we write, behave, etc. Perceived influence is almost more important than actual influence.
I’ve had my stats public for about a year now, because someone said that having your media kit public and easily downloadable, will help the small businesses who may want to advertise, but don’t want to ask for a media kit in case your rates are too expensive and they have to backpedal.
Funnily enough, I’ve actually picked up more advertisers since having things public too.
Hello Veronica, great to hear your thoughts. I can really see why having the media kit on your blog would work well, keeping everything very open does make your blog seem very approachable.
Must say that even though my figures on both blogs are tiny comparatively, it’s still a HEAP of people when you come to think about it.
Congrats on two months of The Mum’s Diet Seana! Hooray!
I waited til the two month mark to activate my analytics and I’m still getting my head around them. (I failed stats at Uni
)
Will be watching your PR info page with interest -I haven’t even begun to think about that yet.
I’m keen to connect with foodie types as there are some great learning opportunities for me eg the Eggs Australia cooking demo with Fast Ed where I learned a lot. Had a message from Australian Mushroom Growers about an event today, not sure what that is but I do love mushrooms and I need to learn a lot about cooking altogether. So am very keen to get into the foodie loop and learn!
Congrats on your 2 month blog milestone Sienna!
Thank you Mlle, am very glad to have found your blog in this time!!
It’s perhaps insecurity? What one pedal thinks is “good stats” may be small fry to another? I am always happy to share… Xx
Thanks Lucy, I must have set this post to post but it’s not really finished yet as I havent done stats images. But will leave it and try to finish today. Kids willing!
