Stepped on the scales today and was a kilo heavier than last week.
Bugger! Bugger! Bugger!
Breakfast bigger than usual maybe? Err… not that big!
And yes, having a heavy period for the first time in a while (hello perimenopause, you’ve been around for a while, haven’t you?)
Oh alright, I went out a couple of times this week, a lunch and a dinner… but didn’t overeat too much and only had one measly glass of wine.
But it’s not that. It’s not the kilo here or there. It’s the ‘Know Yourself’ principle and here’s what I know about myself.
I’m back to nibbling. Nibbling leftovers. Nibbling from other peoples’ plates. Licking bowls.
And it’s not even that I am trying to lose weight especially at the moment.
With husband away, sickness and general busy times settling three kids into new schools, life too tricky just now to lose the couple of kilos I’d like to. I need my Friday night wine!
But staying steady is important to me and I was getting a bit smug there for a moment.
Tragically, I need to get back to three good habits:
* writing down what I eat, even doing the numbers every couple of days
* farewell to the leftovers… into the bin, compost, freezer or teenager you go
* making sure I’m a bit hungry before eating
And, as I type, the oven pings. Just baking some of Jessica Seinfeld’s Choc Chip Cookies with Chickpeas (recipe all over Google.)
And tonight, I may have licked the bowl, tried out the mix (my fave part!). But SO MUCH LESS than I’d have done yesterday.
Don’t you envy people who just never nibble? My very skinny slender husband never, ever nibbles. What’s wrong with the man??!!
Is nibbling an issue for you?
Do the kids’ leftovers undo your good works?

Ah Seana I remember the nibbling sessions well!
I nibble too, and a little too much sugary stuff at the moment, telling myself tht one little bit is ok, duh!
This is where chooks come in handy – they get all the leftovers. And I don’t have to feel bad – or tempted.
I do need to get those chooks! But a few things to get on top of first… the kids! Will come to you for advice when the time is right for chooks.
Yes, I’m a nibbler! It’s a shocking habit, but oh so tasty
Great post Seana, loving your new site x
I come from a long line of nibblers, Christie… I still remember the joy of piggling away at leftovers when my mum and dad had parties. But maybe time I grew out of it at last??
