Good news comrades! I won a heart rate monitor through a Cardio Tennis competition over at Planning With Kids recently.
Beauty!
I’d tried one before but haven’t had my own.
So I thought I’d do a bit of speeding up the old heart rate today, but at very long intervals as I’m single handing the four kids. Still got to be good for me, I’m sure.
The twins and I had to drop off a relative who’s staying. So we popped down to nearby North Curly and walked down to the beach.
Not a great day for it, very grey.
But we raced up a sand dune. What a killer!
Then the toothless twins did some balancing.
And we did a mini-jog along the beach, then walked to the flags and I threw myself into the crashing waves.
Which certainly got my heart rate going.
Here at home there’s been some jumping on the trampoline. I thought my heart rate would be much higher than 128 which is the maximum I got to.
Later I might hirple up the hill in our cul de sac, maybe a game of tip… or kiss, cuddle or torture.
No doubt I will have to do some chasing and wrestling to get the tearaway twins into bed.
I could try my eldest son’s drum kit, it certainly makes him sweat.
No sex though, my hubby has gone off to work again, back Feb 9th.
Has your heart rate got up today?
Should I just have parked the kids in from of the TV and gone for a 30 minute jog instead??

Glad you can manage the trampoline after your op! x

Ah yes, it’s OK as long as a few precautions are taken. Off to Manly Waterworks today and if I am not a lazy old mother and actually buy a ticket for myself, that’ll be good exercise.
Hi Seana, I think HR monitors can give you good feedback about your exercise intensity and improvements in fitness (as you know, for all situations!)

Never thought I’d say this Seana but I’m envious of your heart rate monitor. I’ve just signed up for the Michelle Bridges 12WBT and am contemplating the prospect of daily exercise for the first time in a few years. I expect my heart rate will be going up in a very big way!

My 2 toddlers provide some of the best exercise I get! Not to mention the fact that they ALWAYS manage to raise my heart rate – and blood pressure!
great blog

Ah yes, there’s nothing like a toddler to get the heart thumping. And chasing after them was always good exercise for me too, especially when the twins would run in opposite direction. Will pop over to you for a visit.
Great way to exercise! I usually exercise with my youngest son too! He loves to play soccer and it’s a great way to keep my heart rate rev up.
Congratulations! What was your total calorie burn? i have a heart rate monitor, but unfortunately both the band and watch have flat batteries. It’s on my to do list for this week.
Thank you so much for linking up to Fitness Friday, I hope to see you there again soon

Will pop over again Jenn, it’s very motivating. I didn’t get further than finding the heartrate. Must explore the monitor more, the instructions are not great but there’s a manual online so hope it’s better.
Ahhh, those sand dunes are killers. When Archie was at school and doing rowing they had compulsory fitness training at those sand dunes in Palmy. How they hated those training days. I admire your enthusiasm for fitness – as for me, I don’t go any faster than a stroll! xx

I only ran up the sand dune once – MORE than enough!
It was a gloomy day there on the other side of the world (Montreal, Canada), but we’re in the dead of winter and it was 2C outside so a great opportunity for a run. I did a 5.5km and definitely had my heart rate up there!
Very good! I don’t think I’ve ever run 5km but it’s on the list for 2013. I’m all about swimming this summer and plan to get the old legs running more in autumn and winter. Thanks for popping by from all the way over in canada.
