Some days I write down what I eat, and sometimes even count the carbs, protein and fat.
Or even to eat to a plan that I know will help me lose a kilo or two.
A friend said to me last year “How can you bear to count calories all the time.’
And I explained a
a) I don’t count calories, it’s much harder than that and
b) I only need to do it occasionally… ideally once a week.. three or four days a week if I have put on a couple of kilos.
c) I’d rather put a bit of effort into checking what I eat regularly for life than be a yoyo with weight and weight loss diets/eating
Here’s the kind of healthy eating day that I know I’ll love and which would lose me some weight whilst giving me heaps of nutrition and several taste sensations.
I made that plan a couple of weeks ago and saved it, along with a couple of others.
Today I managed to eat the plan. Hooray!
Have you enjoyed some lovely healthy grub today too?

Totally agree with you Seana – love to make myself accountable – to myself!

Wow! That’s hard core! What program is it? Do you have to manually enter all the info or is it like MyFitnessPal where all of that info is pre filled? I like to count calories sometimes, however these days I find that without sugar I stay pretty close to my desired intake without too much effort.
Thank you so SO much for linking up for Fitness Friday. I hope to see you there again soon
x
Hi Jenn, I haven’t tried no sugar at all but can imagine that would cut out a lot of useless calories. This is the VisionPT program and you can cut and paste days and menus easily. Must do another one!
I find keeping a record of what I eat quite essential when I’m in weight loss action.
Dang! The more I get to know you, the more I think we’re 2 peas in a pod! I use the Vision Food Diary too!

I wish I used it every day!! Are you good at planning ahead. I am generally not great at it but will be doing it more when all bairns back at school. I love the counting of carbs, protein and fat instead of calories.
Wow! Good on you – I’m really impressed by the detail you’re tracking – it’s a great way of keeping things in check and balance. Thanks for sharing this!

Well done – everyone has to achieve goals in the way that best suits them. I actually surprised myself by losing over 7kg at the end of last year. I wrote a post about how I did it. It’s on my blog if you want to check it out x

Wow, that’s amazing. You are so thorough. I usually try and eat healthy, but we certainly have treats, like the bit of chocolate I just consumed. I think we have a lot of balance. x

Hi Zanni, yes balance is vital, as is chocolate. I have had a long habit of over eating over many years, err… decades and am re-training myself for the long term. Most days I don’t plan so well and just try to eat a ‘good enough diet’ for health and weight maintainence. That’s the aim. It’s good for me to really measure things but NOT to get obsessive.
I also calorie count, but not quite as accurate, I go off memory, very low carbs, high protein, eat the kids leftover fruit and cut out on wine/bubbles, except on the weekends! It’s worth I reckon – thanks for sharing. x
So you replicate those good days and know that you are keeping within the calories for that day? I like it. Avoids the ‘too hard’ excuse that plagues us when it comes to healthy eating.
Arrived at your blog via ‘the power of 4′ rule #FYBF

I love that ‘power of 4′ idea and now only do linkys when I know I will read carefully at least five posts and comment. If I’m having a really busy day I don’t link to the linky. Such good manners, no?!
That’s a great idea to have a plan up your sleeve, especially for days when you’re maybe too busy to do all the counting. I think people get discouraged easily if a diet is overly complicated but, at the same time, sometimes you do have to make a big effort to see good results. Good on you for sticking to your plan! #FYBF

I love the idea of counting calories, carbs or fat for a day or two! So much easier than doing it everyday. I know it would work for me – I don’t do too well with consistent self-discipline!
OMG, that’s amazing. I’m lucky that weight is not one of my issues, I have others! But I can see the sense in having a well thought out menu plan and then following it, makes life a lot simpler. I’ve made a plan for this week which means I don’t have to think, all the ingredients were bought on Monday so I just have to check what needs defrosted or prepared ahead. X

Your meal planning has always been an inspiration for me Mairi, one of several.
I’ve just been showing J a recipe book, trying to get him more involved in choosing meals so that less end up rejected – fingers crossed. Must get the teens cooking more too.
I am hopeless at recording what I am eating. It is so easy to put on weight though when I don’t. Was lunch a salad of sorts? Hot or cold? x

That lunch is a slow carb meal which a (slim, fit, physio) twin mum pal has for brekkie. Well, she has an egg in hers, I have the vegan version with chili tofu. I just chuck it together and warm it in the micro. It’s a huge bowlfull and very filling. It does look a bit of a dog’s dinner but that’s OK. That pal has just dropped her twins with me whilst she goes to work, and let me know she’s going to do a marathon this year. It’s GOOD to have fit friends, it really is.
